sizing info - necklaces

This information is provided so that you can make as informed a decision as possible, given the various constraints of not being able to try the jewellery on and see how it fits in person.

How a necklace fits is all about the size and build of the person, and the size of the beads used; whether you like how it looks is a matter of personal preference.

I make a varied range of styles and designs; some come in a standard range of sizes, some can be made to order. Please bear in mind that this is a general guide only - the size of the beads used, the style of necklace, and the person's height, shape and build will all affect where each necklace length lies. You can use an existing necklace and a tape measure to get a more accurate idea of the length you require or come and try the different lengths and styles at one of my scheduled events

For women, the following is a rough guide to where the respective necklace lengths will fall against the body:

12inch (30cm) - high choker; very close fitting (usually has an extension chain for fine fit adjustment)

14inch (35cm) - choker: also a perfect child's length

15inch (37.5cm) - collar, close fitting; also good length for petite teens

16inch (40cm) - usually sits just above the collar bone; good length for petite

18inch (45cm) - ‘princess' - easy everyday wear; classic length for pendants

20inch (50cm) - relaxed length

22inch (55cm) - relaxed length; and suitable for pendants

24inch (60cm) - usually sits just above the cleavage

30inch (75cm) - long pendant length

36inch (90cm) - long pendant, lariat or rope; can be doubled if it has a clasp

40inch (100cm) - long pendant or rope, usually hangs to the waist; can be doubled if it has a clasp

48inch (120cm) - opera - very long pendant, lariat or rope; can be doubled, trebled if it has a clasp

For men, the same necklace lengths will usually appear to be shorter, and to sit higher around the neckline:

18inch (45cm) - easy everyday wear; usually sits just above the collar bone

20inch (50cm) - relaxed length; and suitable for pendants

22inch (55cm) - relaxed length; and suitable for pendants

24inch (60cm) - usually sits on the breastbone

30inch (75cm) - generally the longest length chain sold for menswear
